Dick Cooper Vineyards, Amador County
TASTING NOTES
The 2018 Cooper
Zinfandel has garnet ruby color of medium depth, with bright youthful hues and an
edge of carmine creeping into the hue. Within our portfolio of Zinfandel wines,
the Cooper Vineyard distinguishes itself by delivering more of the red fruits
associated with Zinfandel; red raspberry, strawberry and cherry. The 2018
vintage does that, but also contains hints of the darker more mature Zinfandel
fruits of plums, boysenberry, and blackberry. Similar to the Barbera from the
Cooper Vineyard, the Zinfandel has a floral perfume; rose petals and violets. Careful attention to the selection of barrels
used to age this wine provides a bouquet that gives an impression of sweetness;
milk chocolate, mocha, and caramel, that frames the red fruits beautifully. On
the palate, savory succulent flavors of ripe blackberry, marionberry, and
boysenberry are carried by a wine with a supple creamy texture. The tannins are
mature and free of astringency. The
finish lingers well after the wine is gone leaving flavors of toasty oak and
bit of Amador dust, an enticement for your next sip.
Try it with Cioppino or Lamb Picadillo Tacos.
