The 2021 ‘Three-Way’ Grenache has a garnet-purple color of moderate depth with bright youthful hues and no sign of a brick-orange edge. Aromas of black cherry, raspberry, strawberry and plum lay a cornerstone of fruit upon which we have layered a bouquet of hazelnut with a hint of gingerbread. Since the grapes from Paso Robles have more pigment and depth, the wine will age for nine months instead of six in small oak barrels. This additional time is key to softening the tannins, partially, because they are more plentiful in the wine from Paso Robles, but more significantly because the wine from Three-Way typically has a solid point and a half more alcohol than its Lodi counterpart, and this elevated alcohol will accentuate the tannins if they are not given the extra time to mellow in the barrel. Savory cherry flavors are delivered by a wine with a round creamy texture accompanied by substantial oak flavors. Besides being soft and smooth this is a deliciously rich and creamy wine with enough weight to compliment mild meats like duck, quail, or rabbit.
