The 2022 wine marks our twenty-third vintage of Pinot Noir from the Sisters Vineyard in the Los Carneros District of the Napa Valley. We have seen some significant fluctuations in the quantity of grapes we receive from this vineyard. At first, we crushed between six and eight tons, and we produced enough wine that it was a Wine Club Selection. In the mid oughts Bob Rogers, the grower at the time, decided to replant an aging portion of the vineyard and the quantity of grapes we received dropped to just three or four tons. It seems that it has taken forever to see the yields climb back but they are and as a result Sisters Vineyard Pinot Noir has returned as an SME selection. Unfortunately, this may not last for long because the new owners of the vineyard, Bob has retired and moved to Nevada, are the first recipients of a micro winery permit in the Napa Valley. They have expressed an interest in building a small winery and producing wine from their vineyard and it is unclear for how long we will still have access to the Pinot Noir from the Sisters Vineyard. However, there is no need to worry because given the uncertainty we have started to work with PJ Alviso, son of a longtime Amador Zinfandel grower, and have started to produce Pinot Noir from the Lone Oak Vineyard in the Russian River Valley, and the wine to date have been more than just promising.
