In Amador County,
we grow Zinfandel.  Yes, we grow other
varieties too, but Zinfandel is the “Top Dog.”
And it isn’t even close.  In 2024
Amador County had 1,766 acres planted to Zinfandel.  The next most widely planted variety is
Cabernet Sauvignon with just 242 acres.
Amador county grows more Zinfandel than all the other red varieties
combined.  I like to refer to Amador
County as the ‘Kingdom’ of Zinfandel. Here at Jeff Runquist Wines, produce eight
Zinfandels, from six different vineyards all from Amador, and since the most
renown grower in Amador County was Dick Cooper we would be negligent if we did
not to produce a Zinfandel from his vineyard and that reflects Dick’s
interpretation of Amador’s namesake varietal.
