In 2016 Margie and
I were able to purchase the twelve-acre parcel directly north of the
winery. Along with a beautiful home that
we offer as a short-term vacation rental, the property has ten acres of
grapes. Along with five acres of 130-year-old
Zinfandel there is just over one acre of Grenache. It has taken us almost a decade to produce a
wine from these grapes. In the beginning
there were customers that had been purchasing the grapes from the Sisney Family
(the previous owners) and we continued those relationships. We were also concerned that Grenache grown in
Amador might be too alcoholic and the tannins too strong. We produced a tiny amount in 2023 and were
pleasantly surprised. We always wanted
Grenache to fill a spot in our portfolio of offerings that provided bright
fresh fruit, with little to no tannins, can take a chill and be a delightful
quaff in the warm summer months. Lo and
behold the Peroni Grenache fits the bill. It has a bit more color and ‘stuffing’ than the Grenache from Lodi but
is still delicate and juicy without any signs of coarse tannins.
